Mark Gets It Right

Mark Levenson gets it right in a letter the New York Times published Saturday:-

You write that by unilateral withdrawal, "Israel can start to rid itself of its self-created problem in the West Bank" (editorial, March 30). Israel has "rid itself" of Gaza, but anti-Jewish attacks from there have only escalated.

Those who think that Israeli control of the West Bank is "the problem" should recall that Palestinians committed themselves to Israel's destruction in the P.L.O. Charter, three years before Israel gained control of the West Bank in a defensive war.

Unless the Palestinians were prescient, the then-nonexistent occupation had no role in sparking Palestinian enmity
.

This is such a simple argument point but all ignore it.

What is the focus of Palestinian enmity?

Territory or Jews?

Oppression or Zionism?

Geography or Existence?
