Jean-Francois

Jean-François Revel, a French philosopher, writer and journalist, died last Saturday I just found out.

Now, to be honest, I never heard his name before and only scanned his obituary becase there's a famous Rabbi Dov Revel and I thought maybe there's a family connection.

Anyway, I found this remark of his at the end in which, unlike most other European intellectuals how love to hate America, he attacked those Europeans who said the United States had brought terrorists' attacks on itself through misguided foreign policies.

"Obsessed by their hatred and floundering in illogicality, these dupes forget that the United States, acting in her own self-interest, is also acting in the interest of us Europeans and in the interest of many other countries, threatened, or already subverted and ruined, by terrorism," he wrote.

Someway, this resonated with me because that's what our own Israeli intelligentsia are doing in weakening Israel's security under the new "territorial reducation" scheme of Olmert. They are weakening not only Israel, for sure, but the United States as well.
