Pride - How Did We Forget That?

Richard W. Murphy, former U.S. assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs and South Asian affairs from 1983 to 1989, included this brilliant analysis of Arab-Israel peace-making configuraions in a letter to the NYT:-

That Hezbollah stood up to Israel’s far superior military force has made Arabs in many countries proud. The genius of Anwar el-Sadat was to recognize the importance of pride in peacemaking. Before he could lead his countrymen to peace with Israel, he had to restore the pride his country lost in the Six-Day War of 1967. The 1973 war took care of this.

If there is no renewed peace effort, this latest war will be remembered as just one more Middle Eastern bloodletting, leaving the conflicting parties even more embittered.

Let's see, they try to destroy Israel, kill its citizens, propagate vicious lies, make false claims about historical events, twist international law, etc., and we have to take into consideration their pride at recklessly killing Israelis and getting their own soldiers, terrorists and other civilians killed.

Is he serious?

Or maybe its the Arab world that really isn't serious?
