Another 'Duh'

(Note: a 'duh' is an egregious error of fact made by a politician or senior media personality that most usually is readily corrected by asking someone who knows, or referring to a Google search.)

Over here, we have Chris Matthews saying, on HARDTALK regarding sarah Palin's debating skills (Kippah tip: Contentions):

MATTHEWS: Pat, you know, one of the questions that's-was on the table tonight is, does she know what she's talking about?

BUCHANAN: Sure.

MATTHEWS: When she talks about recognizing Jerusalem as the exclusive capital of Israel...

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: ... does she know that-and she put it together in a couple sentences. And I really question if she knows what she's talking about.

She talked very persuasively about Israel having put together a very good treaty with Jordan, the kingdom of Jordan...

BUCHANAN: Right.

MATTHEWS: ... and, of course, the Egyptian country as well.

BUCHANAN: Egypt.

MATTHEWS: ... Egypt, the republic-United Arab Republic, and she put it all together. And then she said, move the capital.

Doesn't she know that, if you move the capital, by the United States' standards, and move our embassy down there, that that breaks apart both those treaties? Does she really know what she's talking about, Pat?

BUCHANAN: Well, here-well, let me tell you about that, yes, in this sense.

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: Does she know what she would-that she would vitiate those two bilateral arrangements?

BUCHANAN: Chris, moving the capital to Jerusalem is in every Republican platform, for heaven's sakes.

What it means, in the last analysis-Reagan was going to veto something on it-is, after there's a peace treaty, Palestine gets a capital, a Vatican in East Jerusalem, the Arab section, and then you move the Israeli capital to West Jerusalem. That's what it means to me. I'm sure she understands that.

On the vice president thing, Chris, you were in Detroit. Where's your history? Gerald Ford and Reagan were carving up the presidency. They're going to leave Ronald Reagan with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

MATTHEWS: Well, I-I'm glad that you have...

(LAUGHTER)

MATTHEWS: ... the opportunity to revise and extend her remarks.

(LAUGHTER)

MATTHEWS: But what she said was trouble.

(LAUGHTER)

Ha, ha.

Let's check that here:

The United States Jerusalem Embassy Act, passed by Congress on October 23, 1995 , states that "Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999".

...The Act was adopted by the Senate (93-5) and the House (374-37).

...Since 1995, the relocation of the embassy from Tel Aviv has been suspended by the President semi-annually, each time stating that "[the] Administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem". As a result of the Embassy Act, official U.S. documents and web sites refer to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Section 214 of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, 2003 states:

"The Congress maintains its commitment to relocating the United States Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and urges the President [...] to immediately begin the process of relocating the United States Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem"
.

Well, the laughs on them.

First of all, this is what Sarah Palin said:

building our embassy, also, in Jerusalem

not, as Matthews would have us believe:

she talks about recognizing Jerusalem as the exclusive capital of Israel

and, secondly, as I pointed out, it is the law of Congress that supports Palin and it is politics that prevents that move.

Okay, everybody, ha-ha on Matthews who, obviously, doesn't know what he is talking about.

And Buchanan, the Jew-hater, said: "... move the Israeli capital to West Jerusalem" because he probably thinks that Tel Aviv is the capital...

Both of them are totally washed-up, which is a very good thing, IMHO.
