I Comment At TPM Cafe

A comment of mine at someone elses' blog:

You wrote: "...My grandfather was Irgun and he became emotionally torn apart from the death of British soldiers and innocents that he was responsible for. He was so conflicted by his activities that he could not live in an Israel born of the death of innocents. As a result he moved to America several months before Independence...".

He must have been a minority of one in this regard. Or, as others from the Left and additional ideological camps did, they fled in the face of the upcoming war with the Arabs.

The most justified act a Jew in the Land of Israel at that time could have done was wage a war for liberation from British occupation and resist the Arab effort to destroy Israel.

If you have inherited, in a psychological sense, your grandfather's hesitations and lack of confidence, that is too bad.

Note that he wrote:
They had a significant volume of printouts and asked detailed questions about my criticisms of Israel.. Finally in exasperation I told them - "For G-d's sake, I am no Norm Finkelstein". Bad move - they immediately started questioning me on my relationship with Finkelstein and seemed unmoved by my denials of ever meeting the man. Finally, they said we could enter Israel but we "better watch our step". I was not terribly bothered by the interrogation but my wife was extremely upset by it.

Did you happen to see how much he posted on TPM? About 6 posts. That wouldn't produce a "significant volume" of printouts. I think that there's something else going on that he's not telling us.

Is TPM a collection of bloggers or is it just him? Nice catch.

This is from Y. Ben-David:

TPM is a liberal web site that doesn't necessarily deal with Israel. Almost all people who post there about Israel are what we could call "Israel bashers" to one degree or another ( I say this as opposed to what we may call legitimate "constructive criticism"). A high percentage of the comments to the blogs there are pure, unadulterated antisemitism, which doesn't seem to bother the bloggers involved. The most virulent Israel basher there is MJ Roseberg who also dishonestly writes a column in the Jerusalem Post. He would never dare write the venom there he puts in his blog. He has said things like "Russian Jews in Israel should go back where they came from" and "American Orthodox Jews who support Israel are inherently disloyal Americans". Yet, he, like another infamous Jewish Israel basher blogger, Richard Silverstein, will tell you they are Zionists. Other somewhat less virulent Israel bashers at TPM are Prof Todd Gitlin, Bernard Avishai (who couches his attacks in more "scholarly" language), JoAnne Mort and others.
