Shimon Barmatz and Two Centuries in Jerusalem

Last month, Shimon Barmatz passed away. He was almost 90.

His mother's great-grandfather arrived in Jerusalem in 1832.

Shimon was a member of Brit Hashmonaim and then Lehi and after 1967, moved into the Arab neighborhood of Shu'afat with six other families, near Neveh Yaakov. His relatives had been residents of Kfar Ivri, which was the start of Neveh Yaakov in 1924.

This last Thursday, some 150 persons gathered for a memorial:
