Haaretz's Mistranslation

In an article by Merav Michaeli, I found this sentence

The Israeli media - frighteningly institutionalized as it has always been - also almost completely ignored the Saudi initiative.

I felt that was wrongly translated as I had originally read it in the Hebrew and here it is:

העניין הוא שהתקשורת הישראלית, בהיותה מאז ומעולם ממסדית להחריד, גם היא כמעט והתעלמה מהיוזמה הסעודית

The problem is this word ממסדית.

It does not mean "institutionalized" but rather "establishment", i.e.,  that the media serves the regime.

Either someone used Google Translate or they did not grasp her sarcasm.

And it is amazing that the right criticizes the media for being anti-establishment, radical and irresponsible whereas the left seems to feel it is a regime-server and a running-dog for the security and military institutions.

But, this is Israel.
