Judaism's Escape Artists

If you haven't read Steve Stern's The Frozen Rabbi, you're missing something really good.

His collection of stories deals with

...characters — Shimmele, Avi, Fagie, Morty, Mendy, Mushie — [who] are escape artists. They want to escape doting, caviling parents, the injunctions of Mosaic law and a stifling “atmosphere where sedulous study was valued above action.” They want, in other words, to escape Judaism.  In desperation they attempt feats of derring-do that Jews have no business with, like bungee jumping, tree climbing and pimping.

And being anti-Zionists.
